If your hat gets wet from the washing machine during your washing, you could also apply pressure and make this part stiffer (and possibly more resilient).
However, you could also make the hat completely flimsy at the worst possible time.
After you feel your hat is too stiff after washing (with no wash time required for a long time), make sure to press your hat into place. This can be done by pressing your hat into a piece of wooden board (like my blue one).
