To study the fossil, the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and Cornell University researchers examined the original specimen. If the specimen is confirmed with the data on its size, there may be no other such species in existence.
In addition, with the high volume of fossilized specimens, the specimens may have originated from relatively recently excavated areas or burials.
The authors do not know for sure if the specimen was any known member or descendant of that specimen. If so, the study will be of limited value for understanding its features.
