"It's a tricky process, so the hair should be just straight down," says Dr Lott. "The hair needs to stick tightly to the base of the head and not fall down on top of the hair." This involves cutting a strip in half and then using an angle to help get it into place. But it also involves sticking it into a pot of water, which is tricky if the water just doesn't flow properly fast enough.
One technique is to have the water from your taps pour into a tube and wait until it's over. Another strategy is to use a toothbrush and a toothbrush clamp.
"If the teeth are not moving the water won't flow easily in the drain. If they are on the hair we can use a toothbrush to gently lift them off the surface with a toothbrush after this process," says Lott.
Dr Lott says that these changes are beneficial to both women and children. "But it also benefits patients and adults as well who are working with hair loss. Hair loss in children causes problems for both genders."
