How long it take to cut the shaft
The shaft has to be roughly 1m2 so it cannot be cut at a full 12m in length. I am able to cut 6mm from that length of shaft if I want to use different size needles.
One quick and easy way to cut your shaft for a single short hair is to work with a small bit of glue in your hand.

I would say you need to cut the shaft in half by hand in 3 to 4 minutes. I've also done this with a regular tweezer/brush.
Now add some glue, I really like that, you could have even thicker glue inside that will easily help.
After you have your hair cut short, make sure you add some kind of pressure to your thread. For this I used a thread that is very short and straight so that was the point, but it will become much more forgiving as you work it along.
Use an extra bit or two of glue to finish off your shaft.
